چکیده

The ab-initio analysis of a continuous system starts with the microscopic theory of the material, usually expressed in terms of partial differential equations, while a system analysis starts with its global properties and interconnections. These two ends must meet for an accurate and effective model of continuous systems. The macroscopic interaction between components is consistently defined by microscopic boundary conditions through conservation of flux defined on the common boundary.

Logical Analysis of Hybrid Systems - A Complete Answer to a Complexity Challenge

Hybrid systems are systems with interacting discrete and continuous dynamics. They are models for understanding, e.g., computer systems interfacing with the physical environment. Hybrid systems have a complete axiomatization in differential dynamic logic relative to continuous systems. They also have a complete axiomatization relative to discrete systems. Moreover, there is a constructive reduc...

Modeling of Continuous Systems Using Modified Petri Nets

Due to the changes which may occur in their parameters, systems are usually demonstrated by some subsystems for different conditions. This paper employs Modified Petri Nets (MPN) to model theses subsystems and makes it simple to analyze them. In this method, first, the continuous transfer function is converted to a discrete transfer function and then, by MPN, system is modeled and analyzed. All...

Physical Modeling of Steel Delivery during Thin Slab Continuous Casting

A full scale physical model of a thin slab caster with a four-hole design submerged entry nozzle (SEN) was constructed. On the basis of the dimensionless Reynolds and Froude similitude criteria, the fluid flow in a full-scale model is similar to that of the actual system and, hence, the data obtained from the water model can be applied to the actual system. In order to determine the optimum ope...

Infrared behavior in systems with a broken continuous symmetry: classical O(N) model versus interacting bosons.

In systems with a spontaneously broken continuous symmetry, the perturbative loop expansion is plagued by infrared divergences due to the coupling between transverse and longitudinal fluctuations. As a result, the longitudinal susceptibility diverges and the self-energy becomes singular at low energy. We study the crossover from the high-energy Gaussian regime, where perturbation theory remains...

Analog and Hybrid Computation: Dynamical Systems and Programming Languages

The purpose of this article is to serve as a light-weight introduction into the mysteries of analog and hybrid computing models from a dynamical systems and programming languages perspective. Hybrid systems are the dynamical systems that combine both models of computation, i.e., have interacting discrete and continuous dynamics. They have found widespread application as models for embedded comp...
